Love!!

Hey how's it going man. I've been playing your game and I've gotta say I'm really impressed. This is the first project I've seen that understands and enhances the old school style of GTA. I'm also planning to make a video on your game to increase awareness of it.

I do have a question though.

I've completed the mission where the girl from the cinema tells you to blow up the weed farm, and I get a message from the mayor character afterwards. But I'm unsure of what to do at this stage. What am I supposed to do after I complete that mission?

Hey there! Really glad to hear you're enjoying the game so far. Please drop me a line if you finish your video as I'll be well up for watching that.

Wanderstock's next mission will be available very soon. I'm still finishing up the second half of the story missions and players who have purchased Total Anarchy through Steam or Itch can expect new story content in the next 1-2 weeks. Subscribe to the page to get an update when that's ready. Your save file should also remain compatible so you can pick up where you left off.

Congrats for getting this far so quickly - I hear a lot of players are finding the missions punishingly difficult!

That's great to hear! I'll be eagerly waiting. Also, I made a video about your game like I said I would. Here's a link if you're interested.

I have to say, with the new update your game is running much, much better on my vanilla desktop. And it's a blast! Thank you very much---

Hello and thank you for carrying on the OG GTA legacy, I always wondered why more devs didn't tackle this type of gameplay. But I gotta say, I had some bugs, along the lines of what Mr. Sans below had going on; after leaving the first building the framerate and action slow down significantly, sometimes just freezing. The character could throw a punch and I could hear the sound but no visual action. At other times(after leaving the first building) the game would crash, usually before reaching the corner of the parking lot outside. Sometimes it looked as if the game was glitching - everything would flash back and forth between the regular color scheme to very bright colors. At first I thought it was a lightning effect, but it would then crash. I turned off V-sync to no effect. Turning on Frame skip seems to slow it down. The whole time, whether at the train station or outside the first building, my CPU stayed around 12%. My computer is a Windows 10 home, 16 g ram, with a vanilla integrated vid card(Intel HD graphics 630). So, yeah, not exactly a gaming computer, but the consistency of crashes and behavior make me think it might not be the computer. I totally understand your using a legacy version of software because of one feature - I use audio software and sometimes prefer an old version because of one thing, even though other things were improved.

Hey there, thanks for the feedback! Appreciate the time you put into testing this :)

So yes the game is built using the legacy GM Studio 1.4 engine and it's not terribly well optimised in terms of the graphics. It's surprisingly GPU intensive for a top-down game. The entire 3D pipeline that the game is designed around (d3d functions) don't exist in GM Studio 2 so there's no clear way of improving upon this unless I build a whole new game with a new engine. :(

Some of these performance issues have already been addressed and possibly will see improvement upon the next update (coming quite soon.)

Laptops with integrated graphics will get mixed results with this game. I Googled the model of your integrated GPU and apparently it only has up to 64MB of video memory (non-dedicated, so it's depending on your system) - there's the bottleneck in this case. I doubt your CPU is the issue. I would say that 512MB of dedicated video memory, or equivalent, is the minimum for Total Anarchy, and 1GB of dedicated video memory would be recommended. As a baseline machine, I test with a MacBook Pro i7 from 2011 that has Intel HD 3000 (up to 256MB VRAM) and I get 25-30fps.

every time i exit a building, and start to run (or walk), the game crashes, and its getting really annoying

Hey there, sorry to hear you're having issues. This sounds like the game is crashing when attempting to load in the city. Can you post your PC specifications? Also, a crash reporter window may appear with debug info, if so please copy the report and paste in your reply.

theres no crash report, and sure

Thanks for this. Is your computer using an integrated graphics processor or a dedicated GPU?

I would recommend at least 512 megabytes of dedicated video memory, any lower than this can cause performance issues or instability when in the outside portions of the game. Integrated graphics may struggle with this requirement.

That being said, I am releasing an update in the next 1-2 months where one of the improvements is significantly reduced GPU overhead when first entering the city. I am confident this will reduce instances of crashes.

First congratulations on this project, it is a beautiful art what you have done and I understand the hard work that I conyeba to make these games but I would like to know if there is any way to adjust the driving of the cars skid too much

hi from https://belongplay.ru/

Bro i had a lot of fun playing this shit, the soundtrack a dope asf too. It really is a great game if you start making yourself laugh playing it.

Wow I absolutely love this game! I've only played passed mission 1 but I already love it and the only reason I've only played so little is because of a bug. For some reason when I leave a building my frame rate drops massively. My PC is capable of running GTA 5 at the highest settings so it should be fine with running this game (no offence meant just so you know, your game is awesome!). My drivers are all up to date. Any idea what the cause could be?

Hi, thank you for your feedback! Can you provide me your full PC specifications?

Intel Xeon E3-1271 v3  @3.60GHz

16GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Windows 10  Pro

Thanks! Those specs look great, I only have 256MB of VRAM on the machine I created the game on. The framerate will drop for a few seconds on the first time you exit a building (it has to draw the whole city for a few frames) but it should speed up again. Do you encounter the frame drop every single time?

I'll have a look when I get a sec. I'm working for the next 3 days but when I can I'll run an FPS counter and play the game for a bit then send over some footage to you. I'm pretty sure though that it happens constantly when outside of a building. When I last played it I felt like the character moved very heavily when outside and the cars took a very long time to respond to inputs.

Hey! Sorry for the late reply. Here's a gameplay video I made. I've nevr done this before so you might want to skip through it. :)

javascript:void(null);

Thanks for the video!

Your PC definitely hates running the game for some reason. I've not seen anyone with PC specs as good as yours struggle, which is a bit strange. I'll be honest, it's not the best optimised game (and Game Maker isn't designed for such large rooms) but any modern dedicated GPU should handle it. Perhaps your configuration is a rare exception.

A few general things to try:

-Try turning V-Sync off in the game settings. Also try running with Frame Skip turned on. Make sure anti-aliasing is turned off.

-Check the Windows task manager while the game is running. Is the CPU or GPU at 100% by the game? If the usage is still low, you should be able to increase the priority given to the game.

-I believe NVIDIA GPU's have a software controlled option to clear the cache. This may help, I don't have an NVIDIA card so I can't testify.

-Check all video drivers are up to date.

-Decreasing the resolution of your main display may improve performance. To be fair, Total Anarchy doesn't look much different in 720p than it does in 1080p.

Hope this helps :)

Oh and by the way, is David Firth a voice actor in this? I swear I've heard his voice on the radio. The humour is so good in this game! Also the beats...big bad ass tunes! I'll be paying for this game.

I can see some good old GTA 2D inspiration. Well if you need an audio guy for a jam then check out my portfolio

hey so im having trouble with the game. every time i start the game and leave the first building i get this.

what do i do?

Hi! What are your PC specifications please?

i got a windows surface pro 4

That error message usually relates to insufficient GPU memory available to load in the city. How much VRAM do you have on your machine? It may also help to keep your video drivers up to date or try a better graphics performance setting on Windows. If this issue persists, I am releasing a new update in a few weeks which has improved the video overhead, so hopefully will help.

for sure i'll look into what you said and look out for the update.Thank you for getting back to me on my question. The game looks amazing and i cant wait to play the whole thing. keep up the great work

How is dev progressing?

I've been keeping quiet , but I am hoping to post an updated version in a few weeks.

Looking forward to it :)
